Nvidia & AMD GPUs tested with surprising results because DirectX 12 patch is out and the cards have been put to the test. The DirectX 12 patch for Eidos Montreal’s latest feature title Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has been an eagerly awaited one and for good reason. This is one of the few games that, we’re told, that has been designed and developed with DirectX 12 in mind.

Gamers looked forward to Eidos Montreal’s latest title to do Microsoft’s low-level API justice and deliver the performance and visual quality promises and now indeed delivered on those promises, so long as you’re a Radeon user. Alas, the current situation with Nvidia hardware is not all right to put it lightly.

A few hours ago DirectX 12 patch has been released and many publications have published performance data on collection Nvidia and AMD hardware. Guru3D‘s data shows an improvement 5-15% in performance on AMD (RX 480, Fury X & R9 390X). Unexpectedly, however, on Nvidia hardware performance dropped with DirectX 12 compared to DirectX 11.

In our internal lab testing, the GTX 1060 exhibited the issue of  losing performance at DirectX 12  compared to DirectX 11. The GTX 980 saw some performance loss at 1080p and 2560×1440 with no change at 4K.

DSOGaming report similar performance degraded with Nvidia GeForce graphics cards as well, recommending that Nvidia users avoid using DX 12 at all costs until the issue is resolved by Nvidia . The development notifies about the performance degradation that we have seen on Nvidia Graphics Processing Units. Revealing that indeed there’s currently an issue affecting high-end GeForce GPUs in particular that has been identified and is being addressed.

There is a known bug that causes some very high-end cards to regress relative to DX 11. This bug is being addressed by the development team.To avoid any performance loss, all Nvidia users should stick to DirectX 11.

WARNING: Using the DirectX 12 API can offer better performance on some systems; however, it will not be helpful on all.Multi-GPU is not yet supported in this patch.
If you come across problems with DirectX 12, we suggest turning it off again. There are no visual or gameplay differences between the two DirectX versions.

If you are not relaxed with this patch and prefer to stay on older versions, we have made a Beta available on Steam, v1.0_build524.6, v1.0_build524.7, v1.1_build524.10, v1.2_build524.15 and v1.3_build524.17 that can be used to switch back to previous versions. Though we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone,
